Sciatica is often a very painful and quite debilitating condition
it happens when the herniated or ruptured disc presses painfully on the sciatic nerve, the nerve that goes down the spinal column, through the pelvis and down the leg. This compression can create shock-like or burning lower back pain and this may be combined with pain in the buttocks and down one leg, possibly even below the knee and sometimes reaching the foot.

Sciatic pain is most usually experienced as a lower back twinge or more serious pain which can also be felt in the hip as sciatic buttock pain, legs, calf and feet and affects many people. It is more of a symptom than an illness in itself which arises in response to other primary causes. Some of these include the condition known as herniated disc and sciatic pain arises here from the pressure created on the spinal or sciatic nerve becoming nown as sciatic nerve compression.

This is actually a whole group of nerves which bunch around the spine in the lower back that become ‘pinched’ when one of the discs in the spine is protruding beyond its normally healthy position.
Although this condition is not always a painful one often it is unbearable.
If you don’t like to take regular and possibly addictive drugs then a natural alternative, called Eazol , is available which works very well.
The displacement often comes about as the result of an accident or injury. It can also occur due to the prolonged stress of the surrounding muscles which are working much harder than they are meant to because of, say, a postural imbalance of the body.
Imbalances can arise from problems with the hip such as osteoarthritis or foot problems that cause the body to try and compensate for the inability to apply pressure in those areas.
Piriformis Syndrome
Sciatica can also arise as a symptom of a condition called Piriformis Syndrome which is when these muscles put pressure on the sciatic nerve, again because of muscle imbalances when the pelvis is pulled out of its normal positioning. So basically such underlying conditions as these are causing muscle imbalances, uneven pressure and strains. These imbalances can pull awkwardly at the spine, pelvis and hip and all of this leads to pulling, pinching or irritation of the scaitic nerve which then gets inflamed, stiff and painful.

However these symptoms may also be indicative of a more serious condition especially if there is increased leg weakness and if incontinence develops. So it is always best to check with a doctor or qualified health practitioner for a correct diagnosis on which to guage the best treatment, which might occasionally require surgery although this is rare.
Relief for sciatica usually involves taking pain relief medications and undergoing physiotherapy and regular practice of specifically recommended exercises. If you have an aversion to taking traditionally prescribed drugs there are a number of natural pain relief alternatives available including herbal treatments such as using white willow bark and homeopathic remedies like Rhus. tox, Colocynth and Pulsatilla and various natural therapies, such as magnetic therapy, hypnosisis and the energy therapies, EFT, Reflexology and Reiki to name a few.
EFT is short for Emotional Freedom Technique which, despite its name is an excellent remedy for physical pain, often addressing the underlying emotional causes that may be contributing to this painful condition. It involves tapping on several acupressure points on the body in a focused way for a few rounds and is an easy technique to learn. These therapies often involve some kind of consultation with an appropriate natural health specialist but can then be managed alone.
Diet as a pain relief remedy
Diet can be used as an effective remedy for sciatica pain and recommended foods include celery, potatoes, elderberry, garlic, vitamin B supplements, Boron, green vegetables, nuts and fruits such as banana and tomatoes.
You can also get relief by having a hot stinging nettle bath and sleeping on a firm mattress, perhaps made with memory foam.
It is also a good idea to maintain a correct posture as much as is comfortably possible, for example remembering to keep the chin elevated whilst walking, not slumping into the chair when sitting and making sure to avoid lifting anything heavy or awkward.
It is also a good idea, if possible to take up some gentle stretching exercises and regular short walks in the park. Here is a recommended physio program.

Sciatica Pain Relief can be quite challenging for most people. The pains can be unbearable and so quick relief is important. The pain can be accompanied by tingling and pins and needles. Sciatica sufferers usually complain of a deep, incessant pain that starts in the lower back and shoots down the buttock and one leg.
Prolonged or repeated contractions of the piriformis muscle compresses or irritates the sciatic nerve. this is what causes the pain, numbness, and sometimes tingling in the buttock and leg.

are there any other good internet links about Reiki? i am really interested about it.”,’

“Sciatica” is a garbage can term for general irritation of the sciatic nerve. Yes, it can be caused by the disc. But the sciatic nerve courses from the spine to behind the knee where it divides into more nerves, still coursing all the way into the toes. Traditionally, sciatica was thought to be caused primarily by discs in the low back. However, it can be irritated ANYWHERE along its route into the foot.
In my experience as a practicing chiropractor, the most common areas to be irritated (where the nerve is “glued” next to nearby tissues by scar tissue) are the back of the hip, the middle of the hamstrings and deep in the calf. This article may help explain hamstring/sciatic issues.

I also must recommend Active Release Technique (A.R.T.) to anyone with chronic tightness, sciatica, or pain in general. A.R.T. is quickly becoming the gold standard in soft tissue type injuries. You can find a provider near you here…
